When rendering an object I'm working on (a pitcher of beer) Cycles will crash when the foam includes a volume shader as is rendered with a glass pitcher. Removing the volume shader or hiding the pitcher will prevent the crash. Oddly enough, switching to branched path tracing will also prevent the crash. I've attached a .blend file that contains just the pitcher and foam. Open it and hit F12, Blender will crash. Switch the integrator to branched path, hide either of the objects, or remove the volume scatter node from the "beer_head" shader, and the crash is prevented.

I have tried to render provided file in 2.77
47c47c7
on Windows 7 x64 and it crashed while trying to render upper portion of the picture. My console gave me "Error: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" message, I haven't changed anything in that file so my render was going on CPU without "Open Shading Language" option and with "Feature Set" to "Supported". Switching to "Branched Path Tracing" prevented the crash. Tested same file on 2.77aabf6f08
without changing anything and my render finished without any problems. This issue was referenced by blender/cycles@0f22eae9ee
