Unlock minimum DPI when Virtual Pixel Mode is set to Double (or always) #49020

Hi,

I wanted to increase edge width but the only way to do that is to increase virtual pixel mode to Double (which is really good). Unfortunately the DPI is locked to minimum of 48 right now, which still makes text and everything appear large.

I would guess that 36 would be a good DPI, where rest of Blender would appear correctly sized but the edge thickness would be 2 px.

Thanks for the suggestion, but we do not accept feature requests on this tracker (use forums or bf-funboard ML for that).
Please do not create design/todo tasks, they are reserved to developers.

And I don’t think we'd like to encourage such hacks, double mode is made for specific hardware, not as a hack to double edge width. ;)

If you want a way to control edge width, then you should request it on our ML (bf-committers one), and it should then be implemented as a theme option, like face dot and vertex sizes are already.

Special hardware? Like displays with high DPI? I can't think of any other hardware.

I find the text to be quite large on my 4k display when the DPI is 48 (which with double is 96) and I would like DPI of 39 (which with double is 78).

I am just asking to lower the limit to 36 instead of 48? It might even make more sense since the default DPI is set to 72 if I am correct.

Yes, am referring to retina and other hidpi display. Thing is, double mode is precisely here to make things bigger on those screens, since usual dpi values generate very small items (text, icons etc.). In other words, to be able to have text etc. roughly the same size on a 24" fullHD (2k) screen and a 24" UHD (4k) screen.

Maybe even smaller DPI makes sense for very large screens (30" 4k?) - but this shall be discussed (and agreed) on ML as said above, this tracker is for bug reports, not for feature requests and such. And I really doubt this is needed - HIDPI is usually defined as more than 300dpi, 48dpi setting (i.e. 96 double enabled) with such screen should already generate very small text… So if you have a very large 4k, you probably just do not want to use that double option at all? E.g. a 30" 4K means 26" base, i.e. about 150dpi… No need for double mode in this case.
