Hair with children bogs down Freestyle #49141

Version: Git compile from last week.

Without children, things work fine.
With children enabled in hair, visibility computations takes a long time, and it never seems to make it past stroke rendering (and then I crashed).
Canceling also never seems to finish canceling.

32gb in system.
Blender reports 146mb peak usage during render.
Debian (stable) process shows 16gb usage.

*Notes:

  1. There are several console messages: "Warning: degenerated triangle detected, correcting"
  2. Body was made with ManuelBastioniLab (MakeHuman addon)

It appears having 14 children is an issue. When changing it down to 1 it doesn't bog down. 3.4ghz cpu too.

I noticed the same with mesh hair (imported from DAZ studio), I ended up deleting all the faces that are not visible from the outside, then some more and finally I was able to get it to render. Without the hair mesh the freestyle render is so fast I barely notice it.

I am not able to reproduce this issue with the latest blender build. @deusexvagina if you have a case that is still not working, please open up another report with an as small as possible blend file that we can use to reproduce the issue.
