Mixing Reflection/Transmission in node editor for Cycles renderer causes crash #49448

System Information
Ubuntu16.04
Radeon R9 290x
FX-8150
(don't call me a fanboy)

Ubuntu "extra drivers" utility doesn't tell what graphics drivers I have installed. Since this is a fresh install, I am assuming it's the OSS drivers. It does, however say that I am not using the "processor microcode firmware". I will re-test later to see if this helps in any way.

Blender Version
2.76b

Short description of error
Mixing "transmission" and "reflection" in node editor and rendering either through side panel preview or main cycles renderer results in crash. CUDA render is not in effect; CPU only. Command line reads:

"blender: /build/blender-40PcOX/blender-2.76.b+dfsg0/intern/cycles/kernel/./closure/../closure/bsdf_hair.h:247: int ccl::bsdf_hair_transmission_sample(const ShaderClosure*, ccl::float3, ccl::float3, ccl::float3, ccl::float3, float, float, ccl::float3*, ccl::float3*, ccl::float3*, ccl::float3*, float*): Assertion `dot(locy, *omega_in) < 0.0f' failed.
Aborted (core dumped)"

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Open .blend file
Switch to "3D view" (preview render is on)
This is enough to reproduce my circumstances. crash.blend

Correction: crash.blend requires you to render somehow. I forgot to turn on the preview render, so just going to 3D View will not reproduce results. Using processor microcode just seemed to make it crash harder. CLI output was the same.

You've got assertion failure, which are only expected to happen in development builds. Those indicate some numerical issues for developers, but only might give slightly wrong render results.

Also, 2.76 it somewhat old now. Try using .277 release which is currently most recent stable one. You can also test if the crash exists in 2.78-rc2 from http://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.78/ (soon we'll have 2.78 release).

(Also note that in the meanwhile Blender 2.78 was released, please use this for testing.)
