Short description of error
After appending a group, any groups that follows along will get 0 users, hence they will be deleted after reloading the file.

This is currently causing problems with "The Grass Essentials" whereas the particle group will be deleted after reload.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Download this .blend:
  2. Open a new .blend and append in the group "APPEND - Grass_Canada Bluegrass - Particles Setup".
  3. The group "... Individual Elements" will also be imported (as it should), however it will have 0 users (all objects are still in the group).
  4. Save, then close and open blender, group have been deleted.

(I reported a similar issue a while ago, during the 2.78 builds. Where appending was broken for groups, parents, etc. however that was fixed. Still, might have something to do with that bug https://developer.blender.org/T48907)

Event Timeline

Here on Win7 64bit and Blender 64bit portable versions I can confirm the issue in 2.78 while it works fine in 2.77. I've attached a folder with source and destination files plus screenshots on what happens in both Blender versions after appending the Group "APPEND Cubes" and then assigning the particle system with the same name to a plane, in case it helps.

Here is with Blender 2.77

and here with Blender 2.78

Bastien Montagne (mont29) lowered the priority of this task from 90 to 50.

Groups are really a nightmare regarding how their usercount is handled :/
