Bsurface There aren't any strokes attached to the object #50594

System Information
Windows 10
Nvidia GTX 970
Intel i7 4790

Blender Version
Broken: 2.78.4 (build from 2017-01-26 at 16h23)

Short description of error
I was using Bsurfaces (via SpeedRetopo addon), and after an hour working, in drew another stroke with D + Lclick and when i hit "Add BSurface", Blender returned me a warning "*There aren't any strokes attached to the object.//"
I don't understand why it says that, because it worked the whole hour and in didn't do anything except drawing lines, adding surfaces, moving vertices, pressing f and merging... I'm used to have that kind of error when i switch to object mode back and forth, which seems to clear the stroke's parent option. When it occurs, i just set back the parent and keep working. But this time, it's not working even after that.
The stroke's data source is set to Object and i have my retopo mesh as parent of the stroke. Still not working.
Here is my stroke setting :
hDqCpF2.png

Here is my blendfile :
Suzannosaurus-rex.blend
It's a retopo from a high poly sculpt (don't watch that ugly thing :P ), so it's quite heavy (~60MB)

Thanks for the help.

hi, I'll look into this some more today, however, currently it looks as if invalid.
Also I'm not testing a 60 meg file, I can test just as easy on a cube.

In the provided image you'll see a new behavior needed to make bsurfaces work, You need to add a drawing brush, then there's no problem I can see. I think this must be changed behavior, so whilst the "there aren't any strokes attached to the object." is valid, co,plaint, new behavior in add the a drawing brush & everything works as expected, please test & let me know if issue persists.

Thanks for your answer. I tried to add a new drawing brush but it's still not working.

hi, I'm still looking at this, I'll need to find some help so might be a few days. I have reproduced your error on your file & on default cube, but have also succeeded on default cube. I'll try taking to @antoniov to see if he has any suggestions, also came across another bug, I'll keep checking.

I found a trick to bypass the problem. It's not a solution, but at least i can continue working while searching how to fix the bug.
In object mode, i create a new retopo mesh via the Setup Retopo button (Speed Retopo addon). So i get a new fully functional object with all the retopo settings that i used before. I jut need to create a new layer for Grease Pencil, check if bsurface works in edit mode (it work), and join my old retopo mesh to the new empty one to be allowed to continue working on it.

I can't say it's a solution because I still don't know what caused the problem and how to fix it. And perhaps it was something simple and stupid easy to fix that i did without paying attention.

Archiving for now, if anything stands out let me know.
whilst the use of external addons is not really supported, ( Speedretopo is great & wazou well respected )
I would be interested in any future issues you feel are valid.
Thanks.
