Can't reproduce, the file has a few missing textures which might have something to do with it, please use file->external data->pack into blend.
it would also be easier if you attached the file to this post instead of using external hosting (you can just drag the file on and it will automatically attach)

I have rendered several frames using "Render Animation" and I was unable to reproduce the bug.
My system in Windows 10 64 bits GTX660 Blender 2.78c.
Do you have any log? (usually, you can find it in temp folder)
You can try:
Note: IMHO is not good idea to render as video. It's better to render as PNG/JPG and then using Video Editing to generate the video using the PNG/JPGs. If you have any error, you can restart at any frame.
What file extension is the log file? And thanks for the tip!
Not sure, I think is txt, but look for a file the same name of your blend file. If there is a crash, usually you will see a file called "water.txt" in your temp folder.
