Cannot properly animate ColorRamp Node bands when they are crossing each other #51684

System Information
OS X 10.11.1, AMD Radeon R9 M390 2GB

Blender Version
Broken: 2.78c

Short description of error
Keyframed color bands in a ColorRamp node are based on INDEX number. Thus, if you move the position of the bands, a different band will assume the keyframed motion.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
With the attached .blend:

  1. use Cycles Preview
  2. The green band on the ColorRamp node has been animated, sliding to the right. Move the time marker; watch the green slide around!
  3. MOVE THE RED BAND BETWEEN THE GREEN AND BLUE BAND
  4. Move the time marker. Now the RED band is moving around (I assume because it is now in the index- position).

In addition, if one animated band crosses another, the result is different from if you were to drag them manually. You can see this if you move one of the bands just to the right of the animated band. When they cross, note that the color of the animated band essentially disappears momentarily. This is also what happens when rendering an animation.

Thanks for the report, but this is more a known limitation currently than a bug, as you said bands are only identified by their ordered-index, which means they cannot cross each other in animation…
