Append object with parented armature = Crash #51795

OS X 10.12.3, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB

Short description of error
Armature parented to object with armature modifier always crash blender on "Append".
No issue for operations like save blend, open blend, link object to blend.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • add Armature
  • add Cube
  • parent Armature to Cube
  • add "Armature Modifier" to Cube (choose armature object = Armature)
  • Appending this Cube with Armature to new blend crash blender.

No problem to append for parent arm to obj or with arm. modifier, but since arm. object is specified in modifier it crash.

Reason, why I parent arm to obj (rather than obj to arm)?
Because arm is usually hidden in an object and its easier to select object in a scene than armature.

Cannot reproduce with current master, please always try the latest build from our buildbot.

Pretty sure this has been fixed anyway, lots of things where fixed/enhanced in append/linking process since 2.78 release.

In time of posting I tried latest build, it wasn't working either.

Anyway, with latest build it works.
