System Information
OS: Ubuntu 17.04
Desktop Environment: GNOME on Wayland
GPU: Intel HD Graphics 520, Mesa 17.3.0

Blender Version
Broken:
Version 2.78c
Date: 2017-02-24 14:33
Hash: e92f235283

Short description of error
When performing any action that makes use of Continuous Grab (rotate view, translate using G, rotate using R, scale using S), once the cursor exits the viewport, the speed of the action increases drastically.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Start Blender in a Wayland based DE.
  • Get rid of the splash screen

Press and hold the middle mouse button, then move the mouse outside of the viewport.

Once the mouse cursor is out of the viewport, the scene will rotate much faster with mouse movement than it does when the cursor is in the viewport.

@ideasman42, you tend to be on the cutting edge with arch, maybe you do use Wayland and can check that? ;)

@mont29 we have a few reports about blender + wayland, AFAICS these are bugs in wayland/X11, we can't really resolve.

Suggest to forward all wayland/X11 bugs to wayland project and close.

Blender can already run on Wayland natively using SDL, though we will probably want to add direct Wayland support.
There is a branch that added support but its quite old and never had full-blender running (only ghost demo) https://github.com/walac/blender-wayland

Just would like to add that I'm experiencing this issue under Wayland as well.
There's a discussion on the Wayland mailing list about this issue, which seems to be related to Blender's use of xwayland (perhaps through SDL? I'm not sure). https:*bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=100740

I think it might be worth investigating as more Blender users will be hitting this problem as distros switch to Wayland (in my case Debian Sid comes with Gnome running under wayland by default).;

PS: I've verified that switching to X11 with the exact same setup fixes this issue.

@jubjub Blender isn't aware of wayland, closing since this is a bug in xwayland.
