Problem with custom transforms while modeling (Buildbot on Linux) #52629

System Information
Linux Mint 17.3 on Dell Inspiron 15R with Intel graphics

Blender Version
Broken: 2.79.1 (Thomas Sheix PPA)
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
Problem with custom transforms staying active when a custom axis is active. No error or crash, but functionality seems broken.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Seems to be mostly with extrudes, but there are other times as well. When custom transform is selected on the menu, hitting the axis twice during the operation goes to the selection normal mode instead of the direction of the custom transform. (Hitting the axis constraint once uses the global axes, which is expected behavior. So that doesn't seem broken.) Not an entire deal-breaker but it's quite annoying as it is counter-productive to workflow when using custom transforms. Doesn't seem to be entirely consistent. Sometimes re-selecting the user-defined axis from the dropdown allows you to use it, but another operation later on and again it goes back to normal mode for the axis instead of the custom one. If I wanted the "normal" from the menu, I would have selected that as the transformation axes.

Thanks for the report. However, this is very similar to a recent report about custom transform orientations, which turned out not to be a bug. Especially Extrude works totally as intended. See my answer in the other report here: https://developer.blender.org/T52558
It might be a bit counter-intuitive (though thinking bout it I wouldn't even agree to that), but it's not a bug, therefore I am closing this.
Unless you find another case except extrude where custom orientations do not work. If so, please describe in detail where and when it happens.
