Toggle "Playback Negative Frames" not working #52872

System Information
Win 7, NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M

Blender Version
Broken: 2.79 5bd8ac9
Worked:

Under User Preferences / Editing there's the "Playback" toggle button. It should enable / disable
negative frames in the timeline. But switching it on or off has no effect.
Not sure in which Blender version this has worked befor (2.77?), but I have used it already.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Under User Preferences / Editing switch on or off the "Playback" button. Then try to set the Start-Frame Number to a negative value in the timeline or the Frame Range in the Render-Tab.

This option only changes whether you can click and place the current frame indicator before frame 0.

It does not however change the current frame range (i.e. the area in the timeline shown with lighter shading). To change that, you'll want to change the "Start Frame" and "End Frame" settings on the Timeline Header instead.

By default, timeline playback range is synchronized with animation rendering range.
So minimal start can not be less than 1. You have to use an alternative range by clicking on Clock icon to be able to have a negative Start.
https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/editors/timeline.html#header-controls

Having a negative start of the range is not a sufficient condition to be able to playback negative frames and it is at taht moment that User Preferences is used.
But being able to define negative Start is not related to the preference.

Please next time, ask on a support forum when problem is related to something that you have no idea how it works or don't remember how to use it.
Only use the bugtracker for bugs. When you know or remember how the feature is used.
