System Information Intel I9
Operating system and graphics card Win 10 64 bit , I forget the graphics card model, Asus and around 500 bucks if that helps. Logitech mouse and keyboard.

Blender Version 2.79
Broken: (example: 2.69.7 4b206af, see splash screen)
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error Middle mouse button has failed yet again, but will not reset this time. I am no longer able to drag or rotate my work. I have been all over google and it seems every page has a different method of fixing this same problem. I had normal operations and then randomly - no idea why - the middle mouse button stops working. This has happened at least 10 times over the last two years that I have been using BLENDER. This time it will not reset. I then went and got the upgrade from 2.76 to 2.79, but the problem persists.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error Work normally in Blender, and then without prior warning, it's fucked - again!
Based on a (as simple as possible) attached .blend file with minimum amount of steps

For future reference, if you are unsure about the hardware information, you can attach the system-info.txt generated from the Help> Save System Info menu by dragging and dropping the whole .txt file into the comment field ( do not paste it's contents directly in the comment field it is difficult to read and breaks up the formatting).

For some further reading about how to attach files to reports check the link here:
https://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Dev:Doc/Process/Bug_Reports (under the Appending files to the report section)

Concerning the issue in question, since it can happen randomly:

  • If there is some Logitech configuration software that can set the middle mouse button try changing the settings and see if the error persists.
  • If there is a Logitech driver (if it is installed) try to update if there is an update available for your mouse
  • Try a different mouse (from a different manufacturer) to see if the error shows up
  • Check if the setting in the User Preferences > Input > Emulate 3 Button Mouse is disabled
  • Try to start Blender from the command line with the --factory-startup parameter (this will ensure whether this is a user preferences or add-on issue or not).

Since the error seems to be specific hardware related and there is no clear way of reproducing it, it's very difficult to pinpoint what the issue would be.

Marking as Incomplete until the requested information/data is provided.
