Weird shading problems with the new CPU+GPU mixed mode #53247

System Information
Win10 x64, nVidia GTX 1080Ti

Blender Version
Broken: Current Buildbot and own builds from master
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
The render result is very different with mixed CPU+GPU mode enabled vs. CPU only or GPU only.
I had a tough time recreating the bug but the attached scene was the minimum to reproduce the bug reliably on my machines.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Load the attached scene and unpack the image files *. Make sure to set your CUDA device to also include the CPU.
  • Hit F12:
    Mixed.jpg
  • Switch to CPU only
  • Hit F12 -> This is how it's supposed to look:
    CPU.jpg
  • While building a repro scene I noticed that the new mixed mode doesn't load packed images as well. It renders all pink. This doesn't happen with CPU only and also works with GPU only. Only the mixed mode has this problem.
    maybe / hopefully this is somehow connected.
