Blender crashes and seizes PC on open #53504

System Information
Windows 8.1 64Bit, Nvidia Geforce GT 640M 2gb, 12gb ram, Intel Core i5

Blender Version
Broken: 2.79, 2.78c, 2.78b
Worked: none

Blender opens cmd then main screen opens to a grey background. cmd shows that it failed to set to 44100hz... etc, then that it found the python files. Then as far as I can tell on the three versions I tried, the cmd closes. This is unfortunately where blender crashes for me, it also completely freezes my computer at that moment every time and with every version so I haven't been able to find a bug report or anything after restarting. Ran from cmd and tried debugging with VS 2015 and still crashed and froze with no errors being thrown.

I checked the reddit page and google but the help I found didn't work (trying older versions - couldn't find other answers). I'm hoping that you've come across a similar issue before with possible solutions I can try, as I realise that the information I've given won't help find the issue I'm having.

Thanks in advance

Given all versions do it, maybe a gpu driver issue? drop http://download.blender.org/ftp/sergey/softwaregl/win64/opengl32.dll this dll into the blender folder and see if it starts normally

Since you have a build and visual studio you could also try stepping though the code and see what the last line is that was that it executes before it stalls... when we know that we might be able to give additional suggestions.

Hi there,

Sorry for getting back to this so late, I managed to sort it out eventually. It looks like it was an openGl error, but it persisted after installing new drivers and adding the openGl dll file. I eventually uninstalled blender and my graphics drivers and re-installed them all and it seems to have fixed the problem.

Thank you again.
