Blender Version
Broken: 2.79a - 2018-02-21 10:41 - Hash: 8928d99 (Official release)

also had the same problem on a previous official build of 2.79a

Worked: Unknown

Short description of error
A movie clip was used as a texture, however the texture doesn't update in the viewport when viewing in material or texture mode.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Import a movie clip with "images as planes", or manually make an object have a material that uses a movie clip as the texture. now scrub through the timeline and the texture does not update at all (ie. not changing frames in the clip).

I have tried enabling "auto refresh" in the nodes, and it doesn't solve this issue. The only way I could somehow manage a work around was to open the clip that the object is referencing in the image editor, enable the refresh option in the properties menu in the image editor and set the frame range there as well. Then leave the image editor open beside the viewport, and when you scrub through, the material/texture then seems to update appropriately for the movie clip in the viewport.

Thanks for the report, but this is a known limitation of our shading system in master branch, which is stated in our TODO list.

It will be address in blender2.8.
