Blender Version
2.79a (Release build)
Worked: (optional)
An Icsophere will disappear in Wireframe mode if its subdivisions property exceeds 5
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Notes: Icosphere still exists and will display in all other modes.
Icosphere will display in Edit mode in Wireframe, but not in Object mode.

I can't seem to reproduce the issue, Its highly likely that this bug is specific to your hardware/driver configuration. These kinds of display issues are often caused by OpenGL driver bugs.
While its possible a software error in Blender, its worth checking if this functions correctly...
After upgrading graphics card drivers.
On a different system (with different hardware/drivers).
Using a Software OpenGL renderer...
On Linux/macOS, Official releases come with blender-softwaregl
On MS-Windows: Download this dll and copying it so its located in the same directory as 'blender.exe' and run Blender normally.
If this is a driver bug, or we can't link to this to an error in Blender's code, the report may be closed as a driver error, so please help us determine whether this is a bug in Blender or not.
Hi LazyDodo.
I have reproduced the error on a completely different computer with Windows 10 and an Nvidia 640m all updated drivers.
When you attempted to reproduce the error, are you sure you had the viewport in Wireframe mode?
I have posted this in response to several posts on a Blender Facebook page indicating that many people had experienced this.
Tried with the dll you suggested (Which made Blender run very slow) and the problem still remains.
Regards,
JM
[SOLVED]
This activity is by design in Blender.
Creating an Icosphere beyond 5 subdivisions makes the angle across all edges so close to flat that Blender omits the edge by default.
Since the Icosphere is uniform, all edges are hidden.
To remove the symptom, check the "Draw All Edges" box under Properties -> Object -> Display.
