Hello there is there any reason or good reason to hide brushes in sculpt/paint mode? It is odd that before brushes were really big but we showed all of them and now we can scale, yet we are hiding some of them.
I suggest to show out all the brushes that come with Blender. And another suggestion will be that we have the brush in use (not active brush ) showed somehow, because with the new active tool concept, when using shortcut key it is difficult to see or to show what brush the sculptor is using, this is good the sculptor and for anyone who will want to watch tutorials on sculpting.

@WilliamReynish The D-key is reserved for the Grease Pencil in all modes, That is the reason it was changed to X-key in Blender 2.7 series.

Grease Pencil will most likely not work like it did in 2.7. The reason it worked as it did, was because we didn't have the concept of active tools, which we now do have. Grease Pencil should be ported over to using active tools, so that you don't have to hold down a key to use it, which is tiresome and unergonomic anyway.

Exactly, and the name Grease Pencil will keep only for the new Object in the 3D viewport. For Note tool the name should be something else like: Quick notes, Notes, or annotations.

We should probably do the opposite. 'Grease Pencil' comes from people using grease pencils on their screens for note-taking. So actually Grease Pencil was a perfect name for the old notes feature.

The new illustration objects should probably not be called Grease Pencil, because that's not what it's for. We could call the new objects 'Illustration' objects or something like that.

I get the point, but you are missing that the whole industry is talking about "Grease pencil", and change the name now could not be an smart marketing move for Blender.

Good to know :)

@WilliamReynish Maybe we should start calling the object just "Gpencil", and start to get rid of the actual name, but keep the name "Grease Pencil" for annotations can lead to misunderstandings

I mean that if the final decision is to change the name, we should change the name of both tools to avoid confusion. But this is a bit out of topic here, sorry. :)

The annotation tool could be called just that: 'Annotation Pencil' or simply 'Annotation', although IMO it's a lot less confusing if we simply use the correct names for things. We haven't released 2.8 yet, so we can easily rename the new tool and mode to something more descriptive, rather than re-using an old moniker for something else that doesn't fit.

The new tool could be called all sorts of things, even an abstract name just like Cycles and Eevee. I can think of Illustration, Cartoon, Cel, Cel Paint ...
It could be something that evokes the history of 2D animation, perhaps?

Naming 'Annotation' the annotation tool is Ok for me. The name of the new object will require agreements with the other team members

For sure. The team members could pick a preferred name, just like Cycles was named by the original developer of it.

I'm don't know what is the best name or if it's good idea change or not, but what it's sure is that this is the moment to do it.

For sure, there will be some confusion with the new name during some time, but this is better than keep a name that will be "wrong" always. I mean, grease pencil is not the name of a tool like we have now, it's more a name for an annotation tool. The "new" grease pencil is a different tool.

Considering this finished for now, I'm not aware of any more reordering that is needed.

Yup, this was merely to identify the initial groupings of tools in the toolbar
