Short description of error
Crash when change simplify in production file.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
spring_28.blend
SUMMARY: AddressSanitizer: SEGV //source/blender/blenkernel/intern/particle.c:356 in psys_check_enabled
Full backtrace: P696

@Sergey and @brecht not sure who can handle this one.
I can't repro this crash in
78a26f28aa
or latestblender2.8
, building with asan enabled. The hair is not positioned correctly when changing the subsurf level, but I guess that's a different bug.

This specific crash appears to be resolved, but we still have a different crash and wrong hair positions.

Seems it can still happen: disable simplify, enable simplify, then change from 0 to 1.
Though I can't reproduce it myself.
It doesn't happen all the time, I'm using now
spring.blend
(svn rev. 937) instead of the spring_28.blend since this was updated..Sometimes it crashes toggling Simplify off and on.
The problem here is:
pdInitEffectors()
is called when building depsgraph relations for each particle system, looping over all objects in the scene.pdInitEffectors()
is called again to get all the evaluated effectors.A solution would be to add relations from particle systems to all objects in the scene, but this could use a lot of memory and slowness in the depsgraph. Looping over all objects for every particle system is already inefficient.
For best performance, ideally we would build the effector cache once during depsgraph build, and then use it for evaluation of all physics systems in the scene. Not sure where best to store it.
