Dear Campbell,

My name is Hoang and I'm translating for Vietnamese po. I have a question regarding these lines of text

#. :src: bpy.types.VIEW3D_OT_view_center_lock
msgctxt "Operator"
msgid "View Lock Center"

#. :src: bpy.types.VIEW3D_OT_view_center_lock
msgid "Center the view lock offset"

and they are found in this file

source/blender/editors/space_view3d/view3d_edit.c

namely:

	ot->name = "View Lock Center";
	ot->description = "Center the view lock offset";
	ot->idname = "VIEW3D_OT_view_center_lock";

I believe this was committed by you:

commit e2b7c138f6cd5e410b22acb4af96d4df6cb9c316
Author: Campbell Barton <ideasman42@gmail.com>
Date:   Fri Jul 19 10:54:02 2013 +0000

    patch [#36000] View lock offset (allow panning when the view is locked)
    own patch

The current keyboard shortcut is 'HOME'. I understand the first part when you said:

"Center the view"

It's the next part

"lock offset"

is what puzzled me. What "OFFSET" exactly you are referring here, please?

Kind regards,
Hoang Tran

It's when you "Lock to Object" (or Cursor),
you can pan the locked view, HOME will center the view,
so it offset from the center (of the viewport).

Please do not use the tracker for that kind of inquiry, this is to report bug, not to handle all kind of detailed discussion about meanings of UI messages - and please do not set priority yourself, especially not to high!

To Yevgeny:

Thank you Yevgeny for answering the query for me. Because I'm not a Blender developer, I find this amazingly difficult to read people's mind. The English written is EXTREMELY cryptic, if not to say badly written. I'm only a translator. If it was me I would have to write something like:

"Center the view and move the locking position off the center"

or

"Center the view and offset the locking position"

To Bastien:
I issued first email to Campbell on the 30/06/2018, 11 days ago, to his gmail address and haven't received an answer yet. Is there other ways to contact developer directly to ask questions like these? I was FORCED to use the only way I knew, which is using this LOGGING system. Please advise a better communication channel.

Best regards,
Hoang Tran

Check blender.org 'get involved' for ways to connect. I realize it can be hard to get answers, but it's even more hard for the developers to manage all bugs we get reported. This bug tracker is well supported luckily, but we can only do that by being very strict on accepting valid or rejecting invalid issues. No offense intended.
