The client sends it version in the User-Agent HTTP header. When submitting a benchmark to My Data, this version can be checked and the result URL can be adjusted when deemed out of date.

In 03ad327ca2a00e9bfc8d2478da94483639ae4e7f we send the version info to My Data. It's My Data that then takes care of showing the appropriate message (46f63517974cdd3a7c86b582fce598edc52f988d).
