System Information
macOS High Sierra
Macbook Pro 15" 2018 / Radeon Pro 555X

Blender Version
2.79b f4dc9f9

Short description of error
After being using Blender for a while, say 30 minutes sound playback causes echo in every application, once Blender is close the echo stops.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Honestly I couldn't identify which kind of steps causes this behavior, it happen to me with several files either if I am just modeling or animating. I'll update the ticket once figure out exact steps to reproduce it.

That sounds more like an audio driver/system issue… Did you try with all the various audio outputs Blender supports (OpenAL, SDL, …)? In user preferences, System tab.

I didn't change the default Sound Configuration which seems to be OpenAL.
What should be the right Sound setting for this machine to use with Blender?
Meanwhile I'll try with SDL and None settings to see if the problem persist.
Thanks!

The issue (or some kind of a/v related issue) is still happening, this time even more weird, I couldn't playback a youtube video from chrome until close Blender, then suddenly worked.

  • tested with latest 2 osx updates aka service packs.
  • tested SDL and OpenAL (still need to confirm with None).

I'll manage to send a video next time.

not sure what we can do here, @ArtoKitula? or maybe @neXyon also has some ideas?

I have no idea what to do about that either. Sounds like a weird Mac problem. I'd like to know if it worked before on this system? If yes, what changed? MacOS update? Blender update? Is there an older Blender version that works?

@neXyon the issue was always present in this system.

No worries, I agree that might be a weird mac problem, and understand completely that no big efforts should be put on this.
However if you think there is a better way for me to test/debug it, as logging audio engine on terminal or anything you think will be useful let me know.
Could be the case that the audio engine makes deprecated, or undocumented/protected api calls to osx? either by Blender or third-party?

Is this still an issue in the latest version? https://builder.blender.org/download/
