Background Image makes X-Ray confused in Wireframe Mode #56935

Short description of error
Background images don't seem to work with Xray, especially so in Wireframe mode where the background image should be visible through the objects in front of it and the wire should be also visible through the Background Image. I know you can tone down transparency of the background image but that makes it very undefined and harder to read.

in 3D View's Object Mode:
Add > Empty > Image
Choose an image in Properties Window in Data tab
Scale the image up and rotate it so that it's visible around the Cube.
Change shading modes and Xray on/off 0 to 1 as seen in images underneath


In solid mode it works fine, although looks slightly weird if Xray is set to 0 (objects are almost invisible, but that is possibly indeed the intended behavior)
