This was intentionally removed in

, with the argument that the same functionality is already available in the outliner and properties editors. So it's not really a bug, but if you have a good argument for it being there it could be reconsidered.

I see I thought it was a bug, but it's more easier and quick to edit names while on maximized area as it is big part of my workflow than minimize just to get on outliner and rename there.
This is a conundrum. It seems quite redundant & arbitrary to repeat certain properties in the 3D View also. Why stop at just this property? Any property could be useful in theory.
I'd rather think of solutions that can be more general and logical. For example, there could be an easier way to switch from full screen to windowed view, so that all properties can be accessed quickly. Or there could be a fast way to display the entire Properties panel as a popup under the mouse cursor via a hotkey.
Things like that, that are more generally applicable, rather than arbitrary properties being repeated in the Sidebar.
Another solution may be to have an object renaming operator, maybe in the context menu. Batch renaming a bunch of selected objects could be useful.
Yes that sounds like a nice idea I think. Could even be useful for renaming multiple items at once.
