I'm getting weird shading artifacts when I mean crease an edge to the value of 1, with a Subsurf modifier and smooth shading on. I don't see any artifacts if I enable auto smooth and tweak the values some. I don't know if this is by design or a bug.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Subsurf + mean crease an edge to 1 + smooth shading

Can confirm the issue. I'm also not sure if there is a good reason for this behavior. How should this look like @fclem?

Just wanted to update this bug. It is visible in different shading modes like matcaps. It happens when on an object with subsurf modifier you add a creased edge (1.0). Here is an example:
If the crease value is slightly lower shading looks ok.

Looks like an opensubdiv thing. @Sergey what do you think of this?
Please always attach .blend file, even if it sounds trivial. This saves a lot of time when looking into 100s of reports..
@fclem, did you try to apply subsurf, toggle edit mode (to force normals to be re-evaluated) and see if the artifact is still there?

Hi. I did not know there was a report about this when I reported mine. Maybe it's related/duplicated:
https://developer.blender.org/T58994
In my case artifact also appears in final render result, but only in some cases I think, I'm not sure when. For example, Close Blender. Open my .blend file, set Quality=1 in Subsurf modifier. Render image

I'm testing this in 2.83 and it looks like this. Is this correct? If it is, maybe this was already fixed in https://developer.blender.org/rBe6ad4ec3fc7db82062e93d49395275ac326f2a37 2020-02-05 01-09-38.mp4

To me this seem to indeed be a duplicate of #58994, closing as resolved.
