In default file opened, add a single texture slot to the cube in Texture Paint mode.
In Object mode, change the Display type to Wire, then to Solid, then to Textured and note the change.
Switch to Texture Paint mode and repeat the changes.

Solid display in Texture Paint mode doesn't change to Solid, but rather stays at Textured display with a slight dulling overlay.

Problem is that it should be consistent and only show the draw type that is set as the highest level to draw for the selected object.

This is intended as the texture paint mode would be useless if you can't see the texture you are painting on.

Huh, so you don't consider that not all the objects in scene during texture paint need to be seen for texture? Change of drawtype to wire instead of hiding so that you can still see where the intersection will be, or shift to solid so that the object can be seen if set as a mask.....

I'm a bit confused. It seems to work correctly. Since you are referring to Texture mode, are you looking at 2.8 or 2.79?

What is the problem exactly? What is different to what you would expect?

The problem is that the texture paint overlay starts with opacity 1 (so you see the texture when in solid mode etc). But you can easily toggle it off it you really want to not see the texture in texture paint mode.

So I still think this in a non issue.

Why would you not want to see the texture in Texture Paint Mode? Still don’t get it.

I have gotten confused - the secondary object for the mask can be in object mode, and that can be set to solid or wire as expected and still be able to draw the texture paint on the paint object. My apologies.
