Graphics card:
lspci returns 'AMD/ATI RS780L [Radeon 3000]

Blender Version
Broken: 2.80 beta
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
Grey window appears on launch. System freezes, blinks, then scrolls text of "radeon ring 0 timeout xxx." After 45 seconds system black screens and needs to be rebooted.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
start 64 bit blender from download. No changes from downloaded version

18.0.5 I think...

You probably need a lot newer mesa version. 18.3 preferably.

However, you card is ancient by this point so it might not work well even then.

Perhaps adding version number testing to the application startup would help. It's better than just crashing.

We already check if the GPU reports that it supports opengl 3.3.

We would have to do a lot of research if we were to blacklist mesa versions as it is not certain that it is broken on all GPUs running that version.
However, this is at its core, not a blender issue but a driver issue, so I'll go ahead and close this.

We might up the minimal requirements for blender 2.8 as it seems like nearly all EOL gpus that claims to support opengl 3.3 has severe driver bugs.
