Blender 2.8 freezes when painting/filling color on specific unwrapped model. #62975

Short description of error
Program freezes whenever I try to fill in texture paint on the main body of the tank in the 3d view, or it slows down considerably (before freezing) when trying to paint with small brushes. However painting/filling colors on the turret works fine. Baking texture onto all models worked just fine.

This seems to have something to do with the way the main tank body is unwrapped, as it worked just fine if I unwrapped it using Smart UV unwrap. What is the problem with my unwrapping?

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
TextureFreezeExample2.zip

  1. Select main body of the tank (named "Tank Body")
  2. Enter Texture Paint mode.
  3. (optional) Select the "Tank Panels" texture slot.
  4. Use Fill tool and click on the "Tank Body" in 3d view.

Edit: Reuploaded a .blend file with packed textures.
Also made texture filling work by disabling mirror modifier on the main tank body, however it did create some strange lines on the UV image as shown here: Blender - Texture Stripes Example.png

Looks like "Tank_Body.png" is missing?
Also there is no "Tank Panels" texture slot...

If I load provided Tank Panels.png to the 2048px Grid texture which the material is using, and start painting/filling on this without problems...

Could you upload your file again, so it matches your report description?
(Or you would have to give us exact steps to reproduce in the file that you provided...)

All the textures used are provided: those are "Tank AO.png", "Tank Base Color.png" and "Tank Panels.png", so there is no texture file named "Tank_Body.png". But the main part of the 3d model is named "Tank Body" so maybe I was a bit confusing.
I don't know why the texture slots are missing. Maybe it works better if I upload .blend file with packed textures, so I tried that.

I did discover that the program stopped freezing if I disabled the mirror modifier on the main body before filling in color on it, so maybe that is the culprit? It did however create some strange stripes on the image texture between the UV islands - I provided an image in the first post.

I've noticed you are using a build from the beginning of the month, could you confirm this is still "broken" with todays build from https://builder.blender.org/download/?
