I'm relatively new to the Blender world and have a problem that is being a pain to solve.
I'm running the latest Beta of Blender 2.8. (
adfdae3fc2
).I'm getting a full close to desktop crash of Blender when using the Shader Editor. (EEVEE render engine).
I have 22 UV spheres whose material colour i'm trying to set in the shader editor using a Pricipled BSDF Shader and an Emission Shader through a Mix Shader. The spheres were duplicated from one with no material settings applied.
It happens every time, when I try to connect the output of an emission or Principled Shader (as examples -it seems to happen with any shader node). To the Material output node.
It also happens when disconnecting the nodes as well.
OS Win 10 pro.
Laptop - 8th gen i7 hex core 4.1GHz: 16GB.
Nvidia GTX1060 6GB.
I am trying to determine whether I am doing something wrong or whether there is a issue in Blender.
Thanks.

Think i may have found the problem after doing a bit if digging around and googling. It seems to be related to duplication, and the "soft links" that remain between the duplicates. So selected each sphere in turn . And in its' IDdata set it to make single user.
I have now been able to succesfully setup my node tree on one sphere. And it appears to work correctly when i adjust the strength of the Emission Shader.
The "soft links" for duplicate, can be set somewhere in preferences. So I'll now set them up in prefs.
I hope that others who come across similar find this useful.
It would a useful addition to blender when in the shader editor, that it displays a warning dialog stating operation cannot be completed due to underlying duplicated object data links. And prevent the operation from being completed, rather than Blender crashing to desktop.
This task can be now be closed.

Since I am having trouble following the reproduction steps here (with "soft links": are we talking about the
Preferences
>Editing
>Duplicate Data
options?) and I cant seem to be able to reproduce:could you just upload a file here where this happens consistently?
Unfortunately i corrected the issue and it has gone. Along with the failing blend filen as after correction it was over written. But i will locate the page in the blender manual that describes these "soft links". If i recall material settings and f-curves remain linked between duplicated objects.
Please refer to blender manual under datablocks. It describes the links that remain.

We still need a .blend file with exact steps to reproduce the issue, this description is too vague.
I do not have the original blend file but will create one that exhibits the condition.
Hi.
Well I've spent the last 5 hours trying to replicate the issue. But so far have had no success. The original project where the issue was present was ok after setting each of the affected objects to single user.
All I can do is post a .blend file if I come across the issue again.

Thanks for testing. If it does happen we can reopen the report. We get lots of reports though so the chance is high the same bug was or will be reported by another user.

Hi, I'm very noob at Blender, but I am getting a very similar issue trying to use a shader mixer.
Connecting to the input of the mixer causes the crash.
I'd appreciate a solution, but if you want the .blend file let me know..
thanks
Lozzy

Blender 2.8 , EVEE, Render Mode only
Have a single plane with heightmap (modifier to plane: displacement: texture and image texture.
Blender is crashing when going to Shader mode and adding 2 panels: Mapping and connecting it Vector - Vector
