Cage Extrusion (Normal Map Bake) doesn't remove Edge Split Modifier #64055

According to the Blender 2.8 manual, cage extrusion should remove the Edge Split Modifier:

Cage Extrusion

Distance to use for the inward ray cast when using Selected to Active and Cage. The inward rays are casted from a version of 

the active object with disabled Edge Split Modifiers. Hard splits (e.g. when the Edge Split Modifier is applied) should be avoided
because they will lead to non-smooth normals around the edges.

This is not the case.

  1. Open the attached blend-file and hit "bake"
  2. Uncheck "Edge Angle" in the Edge Split Modifier and bake again ("Sharp Edges" stays unchecked since edges marked as sharp affect the cage extrusion already without the Edge Split Modifier)
  3. The baked maps differ where the sharp edge (defined only by the face angle threshold of the modifier) is (see image file) Normal_EdgeSplitModifier.png

@IngmarFranz cage baking was fixed recently, and from my tests the edgesplit modifier is effectively being removed.
From your file the baking result is still a bit different when enabling/disabling the sharp edge setting but that is because this affects the low poly mesh (though not its cage).
