System Information
HP Laptop: 15-bw082ca
OS : Windows-10-10.0.17763 64 Bits
CPU: AMD A9-9420 RADEON R5, 5 COMPUTE CORES 2C+3G
GPU: AMD Radeon(TM) R5 Graphics ATI Technologies Inc. 4.5.13547 Core Profile Context 25.20.15031.9002
(latest drivers, also tested on oem driver)
GPU INFO.txt system-info.txt

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.80 (sub 60), branch: master, commit date: 2019-05-06 16:39, hash: c0432c2385
Worked: not certain, but it's been happening for awhile on daily builds
(also tested with --debug-gpu-force-workarounds flag)

Short description of error
Laptop flickers to black screen, Blender then white-screens, and becomes unresponsive (has to be killed from Task Manager)
GPU becomes glitchy for awhile afterwards (e.g. affects other apps, can't access gpu settings until 2nd attempt)

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
From factory settings, on the default cube:

  1. Enable Shadows in the Viewport Shading dropdown
  2. Increase the geometry (until it happens, not much) with any of:

In Object mode:

  • subdivision modifier (increase view)
  • bevel modifier (increase segments)

In Edit mode:

  • subdivide (# of cuts)
  • bevel (increase segments)

Note: Strangely only happens while shadows are on. Turning on shadows after subdividing is ok.

@fclem is there anything we can do here?

If the driver bugs affects the rest of the system, I'm unsure if we can solve this on our end as it indicates severely broken drivers.

@antfarmar Is this still an issue with latest build? https://builder.blender.org/download/
