System Information
Operating system:

Windows 10 Home

Graphics card:

GeForce GTX 1060

*Blender Version

Broken: 2.80 (sub 74), branch: master, commit date: 2019-07-11 13:50, hash: 06312c6d2d, build date: Thu 07/11/2019, 09:59 AM

Short description of error

During rendering complex scene Blender crashes without any information. Resource monitor shows that it is enough memory (50% of use)

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • run blender
  • open blend file (attached)
  • f12 (in my case it crashes more or less after 70% of rendering progress)

Does it crash if you reduce the samples from 4K to something a lot less (100?) by any chance? The one hour render makes it a bit painful to reproduce.

Are you using GPU only or GPU+CPU? (which devices are enabled in Preferences System->Cycles Compute Device)

For modern Cycles you don't want huge render tiles like your 256x256. Try 32x32 or even 16x16 and it will likely be faster even without CPU+GPU.

It does not crash if I reduce the samples to 100; I am using GPU + CPU (GeForce GTX 1060 and Intel Core i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz are checked), I will try 4096 samples and 32*32 render title and let you know if it crashes.

I successfully rendered it here (Windows 10 and GTX 1060 6GB) a few ways so far without any crashes. Original file as presented with CPU+GPU. This actually takes an extra hour over GPU only because of the huge tiles. Drop the tile size down and it will be MUCH faster. Also successful with the original file and GPU only.

I noticed the environment HDR was not bundled with the file so I tracked it down and ran the original file, GPU only, with the HDR.

I tried 16x16 tiles and CPU+GPU and 100 samples (renders in 3-4 minutes) with the HDR.

So I have been unable to reproduce a crash after several attempts, on very similar hardware (1060, AVX2 CPU). Is your 1060 3GB or 6GB?

Ok, I have tried it. It works well (no crashes) when I set the tiles to 32*32 even with 4096 samples.

From my point of view the problem is solved, thank you very much.
