Short description of error
switch to workbench or eevee - crash

I am not worried it my system is too low, but it works until I hit workbench or eevee, can it not check system and disable the options not compatible, rather than just crashing.

Event Timeline

please, you can check if your hardware meet Blender minimum speciment here

update at lastest Intel GPU drivers can help you

thank you

This is an old laptop i use for work, i am not worried if my GPU is unable to run workbench or eevee,

Would it be possible to have them options greyed out (or unselectable) if you dont have the correct spects.

As i am using it on that laptop, using cycles and all is good, but if i accidently hit the workbench icon (or eevee when enables) then instant crash.

that way you can still use its non GPU features, else its un-usable on this laptop.

IMO you can try to change shared video memory to maximum avaible from Bios or UEFI screen setup to try to avoid this bug
