System Information
Operating system: Windows 10 1803
Graphics card: Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB

Blender Version
Broken: 2.80 Release Candidate 2

Short description of error
If you link a collection containing a light, the light does not cast shadows. If you link the light object directly (outside of the collection), it does cast shadows.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Start with an empty scene

  2. Create a default cube mesh at origin

  3. Add a plane mesh. Set scale to 10 on x and y axes, location to (0, 0, -1)

  4. Add a point light. Set location to (5, 5, 5) and power to 1000.

  5. Create a collection named "TestCollection" and add the cube, plane, and light to it.

  6. Set render engine to Eevee. Switch to viewport shading, observe the shadow cast from the cube.

  7. Start a new scene. Remove default lamp.

  8. Link "TestCollection" into this scene.

  9. Set render engine to Eevee. Switch to viewport shading, observe that there is no shadow cast.

Well, here. When I link Collection to second scene, shadow is rendered.
But if in new scene, I add a collection instance of "TestCollection" : there is no shadow.

So, please, precise how you link collection in second scene.
Because if you are referring to collection instances, this bugreport may be a duplicate.

Sorry, I'm not familiar with Blender enough to understand the difference between a normal? link and a Collection instance.

What I did for the second scene:

  1. Choose File > Link...
  2. Select the first scene
  3. Choose "Collection" folder
  4. Then "TestCollection"

HOWEVER testing it just now, I notice that the "Instance Collections" checkbox is enabled in the file dialog, so it may indeed be a collection instance.

Update: Ok I unchecked it and the shadow renders, so yes it is a collection instance.
