You'll have to to explain what 'non-marked node of rotation gizmo' means.

I have seen those disappear also, but have not been able to consistently reproduce a way to make it happen. FWIW I am also on macOS.

Glad this has been seen by others. Will try to pay attention and come up with consistent way to trigger this effect.
Thank you.

Indeed, that recipe also makes the icons disappear consistently for me.

@ideasman42 can you reproduce this?

Tried a few times, I can't redo this error.

Hmm probably OS-specific then?

I can also confirm this bug. It's been around since last year but I couldn't figure out when it happened.
@Coraxyn's instructions make it reproducible.
Once the icons have disappeared they stay disappeared until you close and reopen Blender. (not sure if that will help with the solution or not)

I'm also on MacOS.

System Information
Operating system: Darwin-17.2.0-x86_64-i386-64bit 64 Bits
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti OpenGL Engine NVIDIA Corporation 4.1 NVIDIA-10.27.6 378.10.10.10.20.109

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.81 (sub 12), branch: master, commit date: 2019-09-23 20:20, hash: 5a6ab6f594
Worked: (optional)

Here's a quick video to show it in action for those that can't reproduce.

Not sure that it matters, but in the video above by @WayneDixon at 15 seconds there is display glitch that seems unrelated to the matter described. The cursor is shown with a square solid white background:

Not sure that is matters, and might be a glitch in the capturing software, but wanted to add this in case nobody else noticed.

@C60 can you redo this with --factory-startup argument added?

@Harley - that is indeed an issue present when I use Blender (not the screen cap software)
It has been present since I got this computer nearly 2 years ago.
The cursor displays differently in Blender 2.79 but it is the same issue (different colour square)

I put it down to my graphics card but I've been looking at it for so long now it doesn't even register as an issue for me anymore haha.

On a 2019 MacBook Pro 15" (Vega 20 GPU) I can confirm I get this every now and then too. I also experienced it on a previous 2018 MacBook Pro with a Radeon GPU. Its been around since the Alpha/Beta days of 2.8 but for me it's been quite sporadic, most recently I was messing with a curve and a mesh with modifiers and enabling/disabling show in viewport etc. a lot. Not saying that was the cause though, I'll add a log here next time it happens to me too.

@WilliamReynish, can you still reproduce the issue?

If yes, please put the steps to reproduce it in the initial post.

It seems to be working on my machine (MacOS)
I tried exactly the same steps as above and the icons no longer disappear.

Steps from the original post:

  • add armature (single bone)
  • extrude that bone in the edit mode
    (icons would disappear)

This might be solved.
