Eevee won't render #67909

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10
Graphics card: Geforce RTX 2070 Super

Blender Version
Broken: Blender 2.80 Release Candidate 2
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
When I try to render a project, the program freezes and after a varying amount of time (30 seconds - 5 minutes) it will close.
Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
I'm not sure what causes it. When I have the default cube, no settings changed it works just fine, but when I start adding things that's when the error comes up.

Have you tried with Release Candidate 3 ? It's likely that has been fixed. Also it'll be better if you can attach an example blend file for the developers.

I have upgraded to the Release Candidate 3 with no improvements. I have attached a file that is not currently working.

The Sun sphere's subdivision surface modifier render setting is 10, which is a little over 5 billion triangles if I did the math correctly.10 subdivisions.jpg
I am guessing that zero is there by accident?
Deleting the zero (Changing it to a more reasonable value of 1) fixes the instant crashes I was experiencing with your file.
It then renders fine for me on a GeForce 470

FYI: I used RC3 to test, but I don't think that matters much in this case as the crashes are a result of geometry exceeding all reasonable limits, and not due to a bug in a specific build.

That's right, it seems excessive RAM usage due to what Evan has mentioned above.

Oh my gosh! That solved all of my problems! I had another file that kept crashing and it had almost the same exact issue (this time with the quality, I just pay more attention when I input these values). Sorry for the false alarm, thank you so much for your help Emir, Evan and YAFU, it's greatly appreciated!
