Blender bug open 2.79 files to 2.80

Short description of error
When I'm opening one of my 2.79 blend files to 2.80. Other files are don't have this issue.
The 3D view becomes blurred (black if I resize blender to maximize) and the UI still responsive to open another file.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).
When opening 2.79 files from splash screen or open menu

I can reproduce the issue. The UI becomes completely glitched after loading the file.

If you click Back to Previous in the glitched file browser (which shouldn't be visible after loading anymore) it crashes.

2.8 can't open 2.79 files.

@Maciej Jutrzenka (Kramon) Blender 2.80 can open 2.79 files, otherwise that would be disastrous. The other way around doesn't work, but that is unrelated to this bug report.

Common 2.79 files should open fine. There may be some circumstances where they don't, but that should only be where adding compatibility is problematic.
At least feasibility of fixing this should be checked on.

If I open the file with load UI disable it loads fine, the file then open in sculpt mode. Once loaded with current 2.8* UI I don't have any issue with it.

Steps to reproduce

  • start blender 2.79
  • maximize area
  • save file
  • open file in blender 2.83

In debug builds an assert statement is raised.

BLI_assert(BKE_workspace_layout_screen_get(layout_old) != screen);
