Make Single User.blend

System Information
Operating system: Darwin-18.7.0-x86_64-i386-64bit 64 Bits
Graphics card: AMD Radeon Pro 560X OpenGL Engine ATI Technologies Inc. 4.1 ATI-2.11.20

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.80 (sub 75), branch: master, commit date: 2019-07-29 14:47, hash: f6cb5f5449
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
When I try to copy and paste an object it's not making it single user, it's pasting as if I had duplicated it (same as Shift + D)
The single user toggle also isn't working.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Copy and paste an object, make it Single User (Object Data)
Do this again. It won't become single user.

I have to do it two times for it to take effect. Sometimes I have to toggle off the Object Data which was previously selected, click on it again, try to make it single user then click on it again.

[Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible)]

Just checked in a7ac8a22f8 Shift+d does create a single user. Alt+d makes a multi user object. Copying and pasting also produces single user.

I also cannot reproduce this.

When I try to copy and paste an object it's not making it single user, it's pasting as if I had duplicated it (same as Shift + D)

  • I assume you meant to say "... as if I had duplicated it (same as Alt + D)" ?

I first though it might be due to User Preferences > Editing > Objects > Duplicate Data > Mesh being OFF (this causes Shit + D to make multi user meshes).
But this is not taken into account when Copy / Pasting (and probably shouldnt...)

So, @GabrielMoro : does this also happen when you File > Defaults > Load Factory Settings?

It fixes the duplicate data, but trying to make objects single user are still not working properly... Sometimes the object even appear as single user after the U > Object Data, I can enter Edit Mode, try to change the mesh and when I get back to Object Mode the changes appear (but they don't appear in Edit Mode). It gets fixed when I try to make it single user again via U...

When you use U and tick Object Data it doesn't work again when you do this to another object. You have to manually uncheck Object Data (which does the trick, sometimes by doing twice). It's weird...

Hm, if I open up Make Single User.blend (object Cylinder.000 is selected, it shares its mesh Cylinder.030 with another object Cylinder.113).
If I then do Object > Relations > Make Single User > Object & Data, I can see unique mesh datablocks on both objects (object Cylinder.000 now has mesh Cylinder.000, object Cylinder.113 still has mesh Cylinder.030)
I can edit them independently and also dont get a crash in rendered view after doing Make Single User again...

Could you try to explain in detail what you are doing exactly (menu entries) on which object exactly to reproduce the issue?
Is any of the objects not having a unique mesh datablock then?
