Principled BSDF completely broken #69362

System Information
Operating system: Ubuntu Studio (Ubuntu 18.4)
Graphics card: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Caicos [Radeon HD 6450/7450/8450 / R5 230 OEM]

Blender Version
Broken: 2.80 (as in the download blender-2.80-linux-glibc217-x86_64.tar.bz2
(no further information on the splash screen)
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
When I use the Principled BSDF the object becomes dark violet in the preview (green with unexplainable shadows on it when the lamp is changed to Sun).
The final render shows the same effects.
Diffuse BSDF works as expected.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Open Blender and in the default scene add a Material Node Principled BSDF.

Remark: I found some Bug reports for Principled BSDF from 02.08. and for 17.18. that is was fixed on Google.
My Download was from 01.08. so I downloaded again today. - No change.

I'll add some screenshots.Bugreport_31.08.2019.png

Frank

Which graphics card of the several ones listed are you actually using? The Radeon HD 6450 has the old Terascale architecture and is no longer supported by Blender 2.8. It requires GCN first generation or later .

Please update your graphics driver and check if that resolves the problem.

I don't know how to find the information you ask for. All commands (lshw, glxinfo, ...) brings only what I sent.
In regard to the driver - I am running kernel 4.15.0-58-lowlatency #64-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT
and don't know how to update a driver.
I have looked for "GCN" in the list of graphic cards from your link. This combination of letters is not in present there.
Yes, it could be that I need more recent HW but how to figure out what I need?
I plan to upgrade to an 8-core system with more RAM anyway so this would be a good possibility to bring the GPU in line too ;)

BTW: If I combine the nodes the old way (not using the new single one) all works as expected.

Radeon HD 6450 - so I have an unsupported card.
How do I find one which is a GCN first or later for a replacement?
This information is in the descriptions of the e-shops I use to buy such things neither.

You can find an overview of the AMD GPU generation on [Wikipedia ]]. Pretty much all cards release since 2012 fulfill the minimum requirements for running Blender. Note that GPU rendering has [ https:*docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/render/cycles/gpu_rendering.html#amd-opencl | higher requirements which is GCN second generation.

You may be able to run Blender with updated drivers, but it's not officially supported and issues like the one you encountered may happen.

I'm closing this ticket since the issue seems to be caused by unsupported hardware.

Guys with this excuse of the obsolete GPUs are making a mess of misery.
there is no official support, not that they don't work with this hardware.

@fsdoma
update to the latest version of ubuntu (the better way)
or install the last mesa padoka drivers ppa

then start blender with

R600_DEBUG=nosl ./blender

blender will work perfectly, but at the expense of compiling eevee shaders, which will be slower..... until the Mesa guys (or some blender dev) will decide to solve anothertrivial problem of lights and shadow which is not this.

@nokipaike which is exactly what I wrote. It's not supported, but it may work with updated drivers.
