System Information
Operating system: Darwin-18.7.0-x86_64-i386-64bit 64 Bits
Graphics card: Intel(R) Iris(TM) Graphics 6100 Intel Inc. 4.1 INTEL-12.10.12

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.82 (sub 1), branch: Unknown, commit date: Unknown Unknown, hash: rBUnknown
Worked: (optional)

Short description of error
In Layout, If you want to reach the temporary lasso selection with the ctrl key pressed ( like in 2.79 ) you need to select the tweak tool.
I was looking for this option but it wasn't straight forward to me as the Tweak tool, according to the description, sets the location of the 3D cursor. So I didn't take this tool into account. Instead I have selected the lasso selection from the expandable toolbar menu. The workflow is disturbed this way.
The 3D cursor tool below the tweak/selection tool, according to the description works similarly to the tweak tool, it "sets the location of the cursor, drag to transform".
Both the tweak tool and the cursor tool actually work the same, one can set the location of the cursor and drag it to transform.

The message is that this is confusing in the UI. Hope you can come up with a solution.

Kind regards and thank you for all the hard work.

Which description are you referring to? Tooltip for the Tweak tool says "Select and activate item(s)", it doesn't say anything about the 3D cursor. Perhaps it should also say "move item(s)"...

With the default keymap, active selection tool can be cycled with the W key (box, circle, lasso, tweak). Or Lasso can be activated with Tools, L (e.g. Spacebar, L, if you choose Spacebar to activate the Tools menu). Once active, your left mouse drag will be lasso. Also, Lasso is available with most (all?) active tools via ctrl+right mouse drag. This way you can keep the left button for Box or Circle, or Tweak, or any other tool, and still be able to Lasso-select.

On the system I was testing it initially the tweak tool had exactly the description as stated above.
Now I'm testing it on another system:

System Information
Operating system: Darwin-16.7.0-x86_64-i386-64bit 64 Bits
Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD Ellesmere Prototype OpenGL Engine ATI Technologies Inc. 4.1 ATI-1.54.3

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.82 (sub 0), branch: master, commit date: 2019-10-15 18:02, hash: a8d001fef5
Worked: (optional)

On the first run, after choosing the default 2.8 key mapping the Tweak tool has a description: "select and activate item(s)"
However, when one chooses 2.7x key mapping the Tweak tool has the description: "set the location of the 3D cursor"

When choosing the right click selection the selection does not actually work on my system.
However, hen I choose left click selection the selection works but I can't place the 3D cursor with the right click.

Just for the record, the right click on my system is by default resolved by pressing the LMB+cmd. It works properly in all my apps, also in Blender 2.79b.

Kind regards,

I suppose I should file new tickets for all the bugs I find regarding this particular case.
