System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.17763 64 Bits
Graphics card: Radeon RX Vega M GH Graphics ATI Technologies Inc. 4.5.13543 Core Profile Context 25.20.15003.5010

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.82 (sub 1), branch: master, commit date: 2019-11-14 09:44, hash: 8ff9eb97fb

Short description of error
Sometimes in a scene there's so many objects that you want to have two outliners open in order to select specific files. However, selecting an object in one outliner and CTRL+selecting another object in another outliner is not possible.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • Have two objects in a scene
  • Have two outliners open
  • Select one object in an outliner
  • CTRL-Select the other object in the other outliner
  • The selection of the first object is lost, which is undesired

Perhaps worth mentioning that in 2.80 and before, extending selection via different outliners does work (though it's shift+click there, of course).

This is by design. In my discussions with @ideasman42 during development, we decided that users rarely have more than one outliner open at a time so outliner-to-outliner syncing is not something very needed. But we decided if the need arose, it could be implemented.

That being said, I did have this working at one point, and it should be simple to re-implement if desired.

Edit: more than one outliner

Closing since this is working as intended.

While we can support different behavior, there should be a practical use case.
