Crash linking anything in 2.83, crash opening files with linked content #73652

System Information
Operating system: Linux-5.4.17-1-MANJARO-x86_64-with-arch-Manjaro-Linux 64 Bits
Graphics card: AMD VERDE (DRM 2.50.0, 5.4.17-1-MANJARO, LLVM 9.0.1) X.Org 4.5 (Core Profile) Mesa 19.3.3

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.83 (sub 2), branch: master, commit date: 2020-02-06 20:44, hash: 8ff556cf75, my own build: 2.83 (sub 2), branch: master, commit date: 2020-02-07 02:57, hash: 192314b9d3)
Worked: blender-2.82-763f117c480e-linux64 and earlier 2.83 builds. I am quite sure that it worked fine 3 days ago, but even going back to the state of an 8 days old commit did not solve this issue, I don't understand what's going on.

Short description of error
Suddenly all builds seem to crash when linking a collection/object/mesh/material and files with linked collections crash on open.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • save default scene
  • create new file
  • link something from saved file
(or just link something from an existing file)
(or try opening a file that contains linked content)
Crash - Segmentation fault (core dumped) - but I can't find a core dump.

Cannot reproduce here.

Just to make sure I understand correctly:

  • buildbot 763f117c48 works for you? (that is the latest buildbot afaict), so all buildbot builds were fine?
  • but own builds 8ff556cf75, 192314b9d3 or even earlier fail for you?

That looks like some build issue on your side then?
Shot in the dark: I think there were some changes to libraries and such, does doing a clean build solve? [make clean then build again?]

Thanks for the report, was fixed by 753323af15, and restarted the buildbots so there should be proper builds to download in a few minutes

Thank you for fixing it!
I still don't understand why going back to older commits (using git reset --hard <commit#> and rebuilding) did not get me back to a working state. I used make clean, even deleted the whole build directory once, it did not help. Perhaps I made something wrong.
