System Information
Operating system: Linux-5.3.0-29-generic-x86_64-with-debian-buster-sid 64 Bits
Graphics card: Quadro GP100/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 440.48.02

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.83 (sub 2), branch: master, commit date: 2020-02-12 07:19, hash: cc6defa244

Short description of error
Similar to #70387, the Clay Thumb brush seems to rip edges while sculpting with the Strength close to 1

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • With Factory Settings, open the Sculpting Template
  • Pick the Clay Thumb Tool and reset the brush to the default settings
  • Increase the Strength to 1
  • Sculpt a long spiralling stroke along the surface of the default sphere

The result should looks somewhat like this:
Selection_002.png

Once the Tool or the Mode is switched, the ripped holes are connected again but the stepping in the surface is still clearly visible.

I still don't know why this happens, but this is not specific to the clay thumb brush (it just makes the issue more noticeable due to the way it works).
Does this also happen if you don't set the strength to 1? If that fixes the issue, I can just remap the strength internally to avoid using it with more than 0.5

@PabloDobarro I tried it with lower strength and the higher strength seems to just make the ripping happen faster. If a stroke is going over the same surface multiple times it eventually rips.

The only thing I know about this issue is that it happens when the stroke goes from one node to another, so it may seem like a multithreading bug, but it also happens with threaded sculpt disabled. I can take a look at it in more detail.
You can try to use the Debug Menu operator and type 889 in sculpt mode, then you can see the nodes. I think this artifact should not happen if you don't cross any of the boxes in the same stroke.
