Interrupting Viewport Render Animation Crashes Blender #74002

Closed
opened 2020-02-19 11:36:26 +01:00 by Sham · 15 comments

System Information
Tested on 3 different workstations with the following specs

Operating system: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Graphics card: GTX 1080, RTX 2070 Super, RTX 2080

Blender Version
Broken: 2.80+

Short description of error
Once you start viewport render animation you cannot interrupt it in the middle otherwise blender crashes and the file is broken.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Just with any file even the startup scene .. go to "View" menu and select "Viewport Render Animation", wait few seconds until it starts and try to stop it. it seems to be working with blender 2.83
but if you tried to run in through python it still crashes

to reproduce run this python script:

import bpy
bpy.ops.render.opengl(animation=True, write_still=True, view_context=True)

blender will crash the file will be broken or lose the recent state.

No crash here either.

Please make sure you use latest GPU drivers, go to File > Defaults > Load Factory Settings and check again.

Alright! I gave it a try with blender 2.83 and it seems to work in the viewport but if you try to run it within python it still crashes.

to reproduce run this python script:

import bpy
bpy.ops.render.opengl(animation=True, write_still=True, view_context=True)

and it still crashing :/

How are you interrupting it, in python ? It just went "not responding" with high CPU usage and then spat {'FINISHED'}

Try pressing "esc" while the small black counter box is showing .. normally you can interrupt it if you ran the command from view menu .. but with python it doesn't and it crashes.

The outcome on my machine doesn't change if I press esc or not (on the counting box ). It goes unresponsive and prints Finished. run debug_log_cmd in the blender directory and upload the two files it tells you to. update the drivers too, as ISS said.
