normally, you shouldn't force quit while eevee is in progress. It being unresponsive is expected.

Richard Antalik (ISS) changed the task status from Needs Triage to Needs Information from User.Feb 21 2020, 4:33 PM

Does this happen with any file (default cube)?

If not, please provide .blend file

Sorry for not being clear. I have to Force Quit from Finder (OP edited).
Yes it happens with any file, even with empty scene.

I also deleted all directory Library/Application Support/Blender/2.83 to be sure - nothing is coming from previous version.

Do this: Open Activity monitor, and monitor it.

Open blender, File > Defaults > load factory settings,
hit F12, or Render menu > render image.
Wait for it to render, maximum for a minute.
If it doesn't unfreeze, force quit it, reopen it.
Set samples in render properties to very low, single digit.
Do Render > render image, and see if it unfreezes quickly or not.
If it does, it is expected behaviour, See T72339.
If not, there could be a bug.

Could you test with 2.90 alpha? There have been some cleanups lately that have helped osx compatibility.

Clément Foucault (fclem) changed the subtype of this task from "Report" to "Bug".Mon, Jun 29, 1:49 PM
Clément Foucault (fclem) moved this task from Backlog to Bugs on the EEVEE & Viewport board.

@Clément Foucault (fclem) thanks for care, but since this machine is from 2009 (we can probably close it).
Official state is support for 10 years old machine (even last possible OS is from 2016), so it is a shame (for my home activity) but I can understand that.

I tried to download 2.9 today.
It is not crashing or freezing, OS just says Blender cannot be opened because of problem.

Clément Foucault (fclem) claimed this task.

Thanks for the feedback. Closing.
