Thanks, but I can not reproduce this.
Can you update GPU driver and let us know if that helps?

I've got the same glitch on Linux. I have latest nvidia drivers.
It seams like glitch disappears after switching to LookDev and back to Solid shading mode.

It almost looks like floating point math errors in the alpha buffer

after switching on reference transparency, checkers go away. But grid goes in front of it.
May be something fighting with reference for alpha buffer?

it would be helpful if one could git bisect it to find the problematic commit, since not all systems can redo this. Me neither. Looks like GTX specific. 82c51d0edb

version: 2.83 (sub 11), branch: master, commit date: 2020-03-29 21:36, hash: a103d09df4
just checked.
After loading file glitches still there.
But if I add and delete material to prism, glitch disappear. And do not appear in next file until I reload Blender.
The same with new file.

Here you can see, how it happens.

Unfortunately it's still happening the first time with the xray, but once you switch to Material or Render preview modes then the issue is gone.

Yes, the same. Checkers appear after blender start once, but going away right after first material created.
If I create new file without restarting blender, problem is not appear.

Also, if I got checkers, then switch to eevee and back to workbench, checkers appear again. Cycles and back — the same.

If startup file already have 1 material, checkers will not appear at all.
Even if this material exist in the second scene with fake user.
