System Information
Operating system: Linux-4.18.0-25-generic-x86_64-with-debian-buster-sid 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce GTX 1060 6GB/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 390.116

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.83 (sub 6), branch: master, commit date: 2020-03-03 18:38, hash: 31aefdeec5

Short description of error
If the project renderer is Workbench, and you want the viewport to be in Rendered mode and show the background as the World background (e.g. black if that's the world color), you naturally set the viewport shading to "rendered" and then click the drop-down arrow to access the options, but there are none there. (It only says "Viewport Shading".) The option is only in the Solid viewport shading settings.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  • new project
  • set render engine to Workbench
  • go to world tab in properties, set Color to black
  • change viewport to rendered
  • observe grey background, observe that there are no viewport shading options in the drop-down
  • change to solid viewport shading
  • open the viewport shading options, change Background to "World"
  • observe that background is now black
  • change back to rendered for viewport shading
  • observe that the background is still black

If the "Background" option applies to both Solid and Rendered modes, it should be available in the shading options for both. Otherwise, this is a hard thing for a beginner to figure out. :-)

I think the correct description here is "Viewport Shading from the Workbench engine does not display options".
It’s not just the Background option that doesn’t appear.
@Jeroen-Bakker, what do you think? Does it work as designed, is it a bug or a known issue that won't be working anytime soon?

There is a bug, but not as described by the ticket, The issue is caused by the new color management pipeline. The setting should not appear in the shading popover, but should also not be visible in Material Preview and Rendered mode. I did a fix for eevee last week, but we might want to check on workbench also :-)

Thanks Jeroen -- without the setting in the shading popover, where is the proper place to tell the viewport (in rendered mode) to show the background the same way it does in an F12 render?

@Jeroen-Bakker, can you update the ticket description? (not sure how to describe the problem)
