Diffuse color pass doesn't output correctly after changing the SSS intensity on the principled shader. #74895

System Information
Operating system: Windows-10-10.0.17763-SP0 64 Bits
Graphics card: GeForce RTX 2060/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 436.30

Blender Version
Broken: version: 2.82 (sub 7), branch: master, commit date: 2020-03-12 05:06, hash: 375c7dc4ca
Worked: 2.79b

Short description of error
Diffuse Color pass doesn't output correctly (mainly displays black) after plugging in a value into the SSS intensity (aside from Zero) in the principled shader.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

  1. Add Ground plane.
  2. Move up default cube by 1 unit. (If on Blender 2.7x Hotkeys Press G-> Z-> 1)
  3. Change renderer from EEVEE to Cycles.
  4. Turn on Diffuse and Glossy passes in the layer properties.
  5. Press Shift-Z to render (or just click display render preview in upper right corner).
  6. Switch to Diffuse Color Pass (it shows as black).

This behavior doesn't match other output passes found in other packages. (I've compared it against the latest version of Arnold as well as Renderman 23.2).
I could very well be using this incorrectly but I'd love a confirmation from Brecht or someone else.

Since the attached file already has most of the steps done, I suspect that to reproduce the problem, just open the file and click on the Render preview mode, right?
However, I can't reproduce the problem with either the latest stable or current development versions of Blender.
Please try the latest daily build: https://builder.blender.org/download/
If the problem persists, please give us more clear instructions on how to reproduce it from scratch.

Confirmed in 2.82a, but appears to be resolved in 2.83.

Unfortunately it's not resolved in 2.83 as sss pass has been completely removed and merged to the diffuse. Well, no pass no problem, but the issue is very critical as I described here D6848.
By the way, if take a principled shader without sss and mix it with a separate sss shader, then passes are correct and diffuse has the information. But it's only true for 2.82.
