System Information
Operating system: Ubuntu 19.10
Graphics card: NVidia GTX 960M

Blender Version
Broken: Snap version:

Name Version Rev Aufzeichnung Herausgeber Hinweise
blender 2.82a 37 stable blenderfoundation✓ classic

Short description of error
When hitting "CTRL-Shift-Click Left in Compositor (Node Wrangler) to select a different
node for previewing, all following keystrokes dont work any longer.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error

Bug seems to occur in the following desktop environments (Ubuntu 19.10):

  • Gnome under XOrg
  • Gnome Classic
  • LXDE

BUT ONLY IF I SUSPEND / RESUME !!!

  • Open Compositor
  • Try to toggle properties with "N" -> Works ok
  • Use nodes
  • Add image input node
  • Add Color ramp Node.
  • CTRL-SHIFT-LMB on image node -> Image is put into backdrop
  • CTRL-SHIFT-LMB on image node -> Colorramp is put into backdrop
  • Try to toggle properties with "N" -> Does not work

Looks like all subsequent keystrokes still have modifiers "CTRL-SHIFT" set.

Also reproducible via attached blend file:

Start Blender
Open untitled.blend
CTRL-Click-LMB on blue label of "ColorRamp" node.
Now try "N" to toggle properties on the right -> not working.

Any other key also does not work anymore

I can not reproduce this on windows.

Can you disable Node Wrangler addon and retry to check if this bug is caused by addon?
If disabling addon doesn't help, click on File > Defaults > Load Factory Settings and check if bug happens again.

It appears without node wrangler also. It is triggered by ctrl-shift-click on a node in compositor.
It may be related to either X11 input handling or the gnome desktop i am using.

It appears in the snap version of blender, but not in the flatpak version.
The flatpak version however does not detect my NVIDIA card.

When i disable NVIDIA in the snap version under "Cycles render device" the problem still appears however.

The debian packages from https://launchpad.net/~thomas-schiex/+archive/ubuntu/blender also reveal the bug.

Just to confirm, is your mouse pointer in the node editing zone when you press "N" ?

Yes, the mouse is in the node edit area in both cases where i hit "n".

Warning: property 'release_confirm' not found in keymap item 'OperatorProperties' sounds quite suspicious, but not sure if that has anything to do with the problem.

@hcw70 are you sure you tested this after loading factory preferences? such warning should not be present I would guess

I also cannot reproduce the problem.
Please try the latest daily build: https://builder.blender.org/download/
If the problem persists, please give us more clear instructions on how to reproduce it from scratch.

Ok, i tried different things:
Bug seems to occur in the following desktop environments (Ubuntu 19.10):

  • Gnome under XOrg
  • Gnome Classic
  • LXDE

BUT ONLY IF I SUSPEND / RESUME !!!

So i log in, open blender, perform the test, all is fine.
Then i suspend / resume while staying logged in, the bug appears.
When i logout / login, the problem is gone (until i suspend / resume again).

So the suspend-resume while being logged in seems to cause something (maybe a strange state in the graphics card)
which causes confusion in blender input handling.

I dont saw other programs affected by similair issue yet....

Hope that helps.
