blender 2.82 save files doesn't work with multiscreen setup #75386

System Information
Operating system: Windows 10
Graphics card: GTX 1070*2

Blender Version
Broken: 2.82 & 2.82a
Worked: (newest version of Blender that worked as expected)

Short description of error

Basically, if you make a new floating window, and drag it across the other screen, and save the file like that; then you won't be able to open the file unless you're reverted to the default screen layout or only using a single screen

you can see that there is no problem opening the file in whatever setup as long as your file doesn't have a floating window saved in the 2nd monitor, and there also is no problem when you open the file (with floating window on the other screen) with the defualt screen configuration (monitor 1 on right/ monitor 2 on left)

but when you make monitor 2 on right and monitor 1 on left, then it'll tell you that openGL 3.3 and what not, and it doesn't open.

i've updated my drivers since i've encountered this problem, but both version 442 and 445 drivers does not solce the problem.

Exact steps for others to reproduce the error
Based on the default startup or an attached .blend file (as simple as possible).

Hi, thanks for the bug report.

I test your file on linux but it opens fine for me. Someone will have to try on windows.

Does this work on 2.80 or 2.81?

Hi, as you can see in the screen shot, I can also open it too, but only when my monitors are at the default order (screen 1 = left, screen 2 = right)

My problem is, my screens are the other way round, screen 1 = right, screen 2 = left), and when I open it with that configuration, it doesn't open citing a openGL problem

Thanks, yes I understand. I was just saying that it seems to work fine on linux so probably is related to windows.

I also ask if it works on 2.80 and 2.81 because then we would know if it's recent commit or has been around for a while.

ok, sorry, i tend to find myself in need to re-explain things as i'm terrible at explaining (i waffle too much)

it seems like it doesn't open in both 2.80 and 2.81 too, but is totally fine in 2.79 if it's of refrence

@vicy.1832 I am not sure if I understand problem correctly.

What does it mean "it doesn't open" are you opening file from windows explorer or from within Blender? What happens after file doesn't open?

https://dev-files.blender.org/file/data/yi3thnskvogg7yclpgtj/PHID-FILE-6xgwfrvyuyviooyoorn3/image.png

this image, so what happens is when you click ok, blender closes, like what it says in the dialogue.
this problem could be solved by having the monitors configured in windows display option as the defualt layout. So what i was doing, was reset the screen orientations, open the file, and to flip back after i open the file.

so, i found a solution, and that was to buy a new monitor (i was buying one coincidentally)

basically, i have 2 GTX 1070 in my comptuer running in paralell, but both of them only have one HDMI port, and my old monitors uses HDMI.

so, i had to insert 1 HDMI per card, and i'm guessing that that is the problem. (having 2 monitors pluged into 2 separate cards)

because now that i have a new monitor (which uses display port) i can plug both monitors into the same GPU, which then solved the problem, and i no longer have the issue of needing to reset the monitor setup to open the file.

but i wish that you could fix this problem because if i wasn't going to buy a new monitor originally, then this problem would continue to frustrate me to no end.
(I also had the same problem when i was opening file from blend swap if the file was saved with a floating window in a secondary monitor)

thanks

Thanks for info. This issue seems to be already reported.
